Objective

  • After completing this course you understand the significance of databases as part of information systems, you know the basic concepts of databases, you are able to create and read data base descriptions and make basic queries using SQL (Structured Query Language).

Content

  • Basic concepts related to databases
  • Design of database with concept analysis
  • Implementation of database based on the database model
  • Basics of SQL including database queries and database management
    • Data retrieval from the database
    • Inserting, updating and deleting existing data stored in the database
    • Database structure customization

Grading

  • The following parts will be graded:

    • Exam (40 points at maximum)
      • 15 points are required to pass the exam
    • Exercises (60 points at maximum)

      • Points will be divided equally between six exercises like shown in the table below

      Exercise 1 - Database design 10 points
      Exercise 2 - SQL basics 1 10 points
      Exercise 3 - SQL basics 2 10 points
      Exercise 4 - SQL basics 3 10 points
      Exercise 5 - SQL basics 4 10 points
      Exercise 6 - SQL basics 5 10 points
    • In total: 100 points at maximum

  • Below is a table presenting the amount of points required for each grade
